While the rechargeable hybrid SUVs make fun of the European roads, the EHS MG enters with interesting promises: power, comfort and an attractive quality/price ratio. But what about your performance and mechanics? In this article, we examine this hybrid model to see if it keeps its promises on the road and in the figures.
Hybrid engine: between efficiency and versatility
The EHS MG combines a turbo heat engine of 1.5 of 162 HP with an electric motor of 122 HP, which offers a total power of 258 HP. This configuration allows him to offer interesting performances, with 0 to 100 km/h made in 6.9 seconds.
The 16.6 kWh battery allows autonomy in purely electric mode of 52 km according to WLTP standards, ideal for urban travel. The transmission system incorporates an automatic 10 -speed transmission, ensuring fluid driving in hybrid mode, while optimizing consumption.
With different driving modes, from electrical mode to sport mode, MG Ehs adapts to all situations, although it may not have finesse in the management of transitions. We reveal the problems of the HS MG a little later …
Road behavior and driving pleasure
On the road, MG EHS does not lack character. With its combined 258 HP, it offers lively accelerations, reaching from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. The 10 -speed automatic transmission provides relatively soft transitions, but it is possible to perceive some idiots during the variations between the electrical and thermal methods, in particular at low speed.
In dynamic guide, the Sport mode reveals all its power, offering francs reminder and a more reactive guide. However, despite the honorable performance, MG EHS does not reach the fluidity and improvement of other hybrid competitions of competition.
On the management side, the balance between comfort and dynamism remains satisfactory, even if the SUV could obtain precision on certain narrow curves.
Strong points:
- Lively accelerations and good combined power
- Automatic 10 -speed transmission for fluid transitions
- Sport mode for more dynamic guide
- Well balanced comfort with a certain stability
Points to improve:
- Shook during the transition between the electrical and thermal methods
- Lack of precision in the sports guide
Autonomy, consumption and charging
The MG EHS stands out for its energy efficiency, offering autonomy in pure electrical mode of about 40 to 45 km in real conditions, well below the 52 km announced by the manufacturer.
In hybrid use, the medium consumption rotates from 6 to 7 l/100 km once the battery is exhausted, which remains competitive for an SUV of this size. For urban and peri -urban trips, electric autonomy is largely sufficient to avoid fuel consumption in short trips.
On the charging side, the battery connects in a type 2 socket and can be completely recharged in about 4 hours on a 7 kW terminal. However, the lack of quick load DC can be a brake during long journeys, forcing longer stops for complete charging. On the other hand, domestic terminals are sufficient for most daily trips.
Strong points:
- Good autonomy in electric mode for urban travel
- Complete recharge in about 4 hours on a 7 kW terminal
- Reasonable consumption in hybrid mode
Points to improve:
- Absence of rapid DC loads for more effective recharges in move
- Actual autonomy slightly lower than the manufacturer’s advertising
Mhe HS: perceived reliability, maintenance and guarantee
The MG EHS benefits from a 7 -year 7 -year manufacturer’s guarantee or 150,000 km, a particularly reassuring offer for a still relatively new hybrid SUV on the European market.
Although the MG brand is of British origin, it is now under the control of the Chinese Saic group, which allows it to benefit from a proven platform and a motor technology widely used in other Saic models.
In terms of reliability, the first user feedback is quite positive, although some internal finishes remain perfect compared to competition models. The mechanical components, in particular the Turbo 1.5 heat engine, have lived and have not given disturbing signals on their longevity.
On the maintenance side, the EHS MG does not require specific treatments as well as conventional checks for a rechargeable hybrid model. In hybrid mode, brake consumption is reduced thanks to the use of the electric motor to regenerate energy. However, the owners must be brigade on the wear of the long -term battery.
The maintenance network gradually extends to Europe, with approved centers ready to support the needs of the owners. However, the after-sales service experience may vary according to the Region. You will find more information on the Autotitre forum.
